The Silicon Valley security operations vendor directed Harteveld to embed AI into Exabeam’s solutions to enhance SOC efficiency and create measurable, benchmarked outcomes. Harteveld joined the firm in April 2024 to oversee the integration between LogRhythm and Exabeam and replaces Christopher O’Malley, who led the company since February 2022 (see: CEO Chris O’Malley on Why LogRhythm, Exabeam Opted to Merge).
“Chris’s vision was bring these two things together, navigate through the integration, get the company into a position where it is now ready and prepared to realize the opportunity in front of it,” Harteveld told Information Security Media Group. “It felt like it was a natural time to take a step back and let me take the organization on the next iteration of our growth.”
The CEO role allows Harteveld to engage more deeply with the technology and operations side of the business, such as product development and support. Harteveld said his role as Exabeam’s CRO allowed him to gain an intimate understanding of the internal structure and external customer landscape.
“I don’t see it as that big of a jump, per se, because I’m going to rely on our executive team,” Harteveld said. “People like Steve Wilson, who runs our products organization. I look at it as an opportunity for them to continue to escalate their prominence and perspective throughout the organization.”
Harteveld said Exabeam integrated AI agents to its internal workflows to better understand how the technology behaves. Exabeam worked with their CISO to monitor internal AI usage in real-time and used that experience to shape the company’s external product offerings.
“We use our technology to manage and monitor all of those AI agents that are proliferating around our organization as a means to understand that behavior and understand those challenges,” Harteveld said. “We’re able to treat those like any other insider threat, and could basically give SOC teams the ability to see those issues before many others could identify them.”
