Microsegmentation no longer remains a buzzword. In today’s threat landscape, organizations are adopting it as a frontline defense against cyberattacks and higher cyber insurance premiums.
About 90% of organizations are using some form of segmentation, with more of a third of them implement microsegmentation into their stacks, according to Akamai’s 2025 Segmentation Impact Study. The study also revealed that organizations leveraging microsegmentation for containment and response do so 33% faster, which limits lateral movement and reduces an attacks blast radius.
Now more than ever, cyber insurers are taking notice of which companies choose to implement new strategies into their response plans, microsegmentation chief among them.
“Cyber insurers are now taking microsegmentation into account when they’re issuing premiums and organizations leveraging the microsegmentation in that discussion with the cyber insurers are seeing flat or decreases in their premiums year over year,” said Garrett Weber, field CTO at Akamai.
In this audio interview with Information Security Media Group, Weber also discussed:
- Key points from Akamai’s 2025 Segmentation Impact Study;
- Why implementation is easier with visibility tools and AI-driven workflows;
- How Akamai’s natural language processing creates a user-friendly interface.
Weber is the field CTO for the Akamai Enterprise Security Group, where he works with organizations to guide them through their zero trust journey.
