Organizers design challenges for both beginners and seasoned experts. Dynamic scoring ensures fairness by reducing points as challenges are solved by more teams, which discourages flag sharing. Teams bring diverse skills to the table, from hardware hacking to cryptography, he said.
“You’re actually improving your skills. You gain knowledge about vulnerabilities, about tooling,” Werner said.
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at Nullcon Berlin 2025, Werner also discussed:
- Blending physical and digital security challenges at on-site events;
- Balancing accessibility with advanced problem-solving through layered challenge design;
- Building a talent pipeline through university-level and global competitions.
Werner is a member of Enoflag, a team of brilliant minds creating unique CTF challenges.
