Trend Micro’s Kevin Simzer on How Tariffs and Data Sovereignty Shape Cybersecurity
Organizations are beginning to be more cautious in the wake of the global trade tariff war in terms of budgeting, although the situation is an opportunity for the cybersecurity industry to improve performance overall, said Kevin Simzer, chief operating officer at Trend Micro.

Simzer added that only 10% of the Trend Micro business has been impacted as the company largely falls under the services category that the tariffs do not cover.
“We do have 10% of our business that does fall into that, and that’s all network security appliances that are manufactured here in the U.S. So, we’re trying to stay up on what the impact of those tariffs will be and sourcing components, but we don’t see it as a big impact right now,” Simzer added.
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at RSAC Conference 2025, Simzer discussed:
- The impact of trade tariffs on cybersecurity;
- How data sovereignty is driving on-premises deployments;
- Cybersecurity skill and talent challenges.
At Trend Micro, Simzer is responsible for overseeing all field operations, including global sales, marketing, business development, strategic alliances and corporate development. His extensive experience in the cybersecurity industry has shaped his leadership approach, driving the company’s continued success.
