BidenCash Was Notorious for Posting Free Tranches of Stolen Card Data

An online carder marketplace with a flair for publicity is now offline following a U.S. and Dutch law enforcement seizure.

The site, BidenCash, began operations in March 2022, growing to 117,000 customers who facilitated the trafficking of more than 15 million payment card numbers and personally identifiable information, the U.S. Department of Justice said Wednesday.
Investigators seized 145 dark net and open web domains associated with the carder site, as well as cryptocurrency accounts of BidenCash operators. The site generated more than $17 million of revenue, the government said.
BidenCash grabbed attention by publishing for payment card details for free, although the actual utility to fraudsters of the cards was questionable. A dump of two million payment cards in 2023 made to celebrate the site’s one year anniversary included cards nearing expiration or likely rendered useless by a security alert, threat intelligence firm Flashpoint said at the time Publicity Stunt: Criminals Dump 2 Million Free Payment Cards).
BidenCash leaks were more like grocery store samples than a full meal, Flashpoint said. Federal authorities say the marketplace ultimately published 3.3 million individual stolen credit cards for free.
A December 2023 analysis by Visa of a tranche of 1.9 million cards posted for free by BidenCash found 556,000 at-risk payment network cards. Half of those cards had already been flagged as possible obtained by cybercrminals through enumeration attacks, in which fraudsters attempt card-not-present transactions using algorithmically-generated numbers until they find a combination that is valid.
The online marketplace’s growth filled a void in the carder criminal underground left by the February 2021 exit of dark net marketplace Joker’s Stash and a February 2022 crackdown on carder sites by the Russian government (see: Russia Shutters 3 Carding Markets, Including Trump’s Dumps).
