He wants to improve human behavior and decision-making in cybersecurity contexts through phishing simulations, email filtering, data loss prevention alerts and behavioral analytics. Palma wants to build on the email security capabilities KnowBe4 acquired from Egress by expanding into adjacent threat vectors including SMS phishing and voice phishing to provide more holistic human-focused defense mechanisms (see: Vishal Rao to Pull Double Duty as CEO of Trellix, Skyhigh).
“I’ve been around cybersecurity for a long time – over 20 years in the tech industry – and my specialty is running those businesses that get to that inflection point between $1 billion and $3 billion dollars,” he said. “This fits in quite nicely. I’ve got a good mix of public and private experience company experience. As we look to go public in the future, I’m somebody that can help get them across the line.”
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, Palma also discussed:
- The role of KnowBe4 founder and ex-CEO Stu Sjouwerman going forward;
- Internal leadership support and the road map for agentic AI;
- How KnowBe4 will compete and win against Proofpoint, Mimecast and Barracuda.
Palma previously led Trellix, which was created through the merger of FireEye and McAfee Enterprise. Prior to joining Trellix, he guided leading organizations through technology and business transformations including Cisco, Boeing, EDS, PepsiCo and the U.S. Secret Service. Palma serves on the President’s National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee and the CloudBees board of directors.
