Even members of the annual Cryptographers’ Panel warned that agentic AI is shifting the balance between attackers and defenders, enabling rapid exploitation of vulnerabilities as AI tools accelerate reconnaissance and attack execution, said Mathew Schwartz, executive editor, DataBreachToday and Europe.
“In the short term, the cryptographers on the panel pretty much by and large said it’s going to be an attacker’s picnic.” Schwartz said.
The panelists – Tom Field, senior vice president, editorial; Michael Novinson, executive editor, ISMG Business; Rahul Neel Mani, vice president of community engagement and editorial; Schwartz; and Anna Delaney, executive director, productions – discussed:
- Why AI governance requires measurable efficiency gains and stronger oversight models;
- How agentic AI is accelerating attacks while also automating security operations for cyber defenders;
- The rise in operational technology risks as geopolitical tensions expose preparedness gaps.
