The use of artificial intelligence is not only reshaping healthcare delivery in the sector but also healthcare cybersecurity within organizations, said Anahi Santiago, CISO of ChristianaCare, the largest healthcare delivery organization in Delaware.
“There are uses of AI in the cybersecurity products to make our team more productive. We also have a lot of clinicians who are seeing the value of integrating AI solutions into care delivery,” she said.
“There’s a lot of excitement about that in our organization,” Santiago said in an interview with Information Security Media Group during the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society 2025 conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
But the caveat to all this is that threat actors are also taking advantage of AI for social engineering and other attacks, she said.
“So, our educational strategies have also changed to account for the potential threats of things like deepfakes,” she said.
In this audio interview with Information Security Media Group, Santiago discussed:
- How ChristianaCare is changing its educational strategy to stay ahead of deepfakes and other uses of AI by cybercriminals;
- The most promising uses of AI to help cybersecurity professionals;
- Other advancing technologies that could reshape patient care and healthcare cybersecurity.
Santiago previously spent more than 10 years as an information security and privacy officer at Einstein Healthcare Network. She is also an active contributor and member of several local, state and federal cybersecurity organizations, including the Healthcare Sector Coordinating Council’s Cybersecurity Working Group, the Delaware Healthcare Cybersecurity Alliance and Philadelphia’s Women and Cybersecurity.
